Following a complaint from a neighbor, the County issued a Stop Order to us to cease all events until we had ruled out the need for a Special Use Permit.
Dear friends of the Portal,
The County of Taos authorizes only two uses for residents: residential and agricultural. Following a complaint from a neighbor, the County issued a Stop Order to us to cease all events until we had ruled out the need for a Special Use Permit. The application process to be granted Special Use is protracted, invasive and not guaranteed to result in permitting by the County.
I write you today to explain that I have decided not to apply for an exception to their ordinance. To that end, per their requirements, I am shutting down the website at the end of the month and agreeing to cease holding events in the Portal.
Undoubtedly this may feel to many of you like the entirely wrong call on my part, and it needs to be stated that working with the County is a step that could be taken in the future.
But today, as I approach my 89th birthday and experience the state of my health and nature of my energy, I know I do not wish to spend these last years of my life navigating the logistical hoops required by the SUP process. That focus is, in some ways, antithetical to the highest use of my energy, my focus and my time on this earth.
The portal will, hopefully, continue to emanate the energies that really do support the consciousness needed on the planet at this time. It is consecrated space. Friends and neighbors are welcome; individuals who wish to sit in silent meditation and prayer may do so by personal invitation.
